Decatur – Paul Dean Ater, 77, of Decatur passed away at 12:15 a.m. June 21, 2011 in East View Nursing Home, Sullivan.

 

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Concordia Lutheran Church.  Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery with military honors by the Macon County Honor Guard and the US Army.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.  The family suggests casual attire for the services. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion is assisting the family with services. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Concordia Lutheran Church. 

 

Dean was born September 30, 1933 in Decatur the son of Paul and Leota (Waddell) Ater.  He married Lorraine Stach on December 14, 1953.  He was retired from Mueller Company having worked in Inventory Control.  Dean had served in the Army and was a Korean War veteran.  He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening, wood working and many other outdoor activities.

 

He is survived by his wife: Lorraine of Decatur; son: Danny Ater and his wife Tonya of Decatur; Grandson: Josh Ater of Mt. Zion and Danny Ater Jr. of Fort Collins, CO; brother: Neal Ater and his wife Jeannie of Decatur.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Donald.
